The City Council on July 20 will hold a public hearing to listen to neighbors’ concerns before voting to turn operational rights to a Kramer Boulevard oil pipe over to Nuevo Energy Co. Nuevo Energy, based in Delaware, has agreed to pay the city a fee to operate the pipeline, formerly owned by Union Oil Co. of California.

The fee has not been determined. The 6-foot portion of the pipe, which is 6 inches in diameter, is part of a network of oil lines that runs throughout north Orange County.

Any future changes to the pipe must be approved by the City Council. Because the pipe is in place and has been operating for some time, the city does not expect any concerns from residents on the north end of Kramer Boulevard, City Atty. Carol B. Tanenbaum said.
