Couple Robbed by Men in LAPD Caps
Four robbers took luggage and a cellular telephone from two business associates at gunpoint as they got out of their car in a South Pasadena neighborhood, police said Tuesday.
The man and woman, who had just come from Los Angeles International Airport, were unloading the man’s luggage at his home in the 1800 block of Ramona Avenue about midnight Monday when three men wearing baseball caps with Los Angeles Police Department insignia pulled up in a new compact car, Police Sgt. Doug Brown said. The men said, “Don’t move, police.”
The robbers wore bandannas over their faces, and at least two had handguns as they approached the late-model Mercedes, Brown said.
One of the robbers tried to grab the man’s carry-on case and suit hanger, but the man refused to let go. Brown said. Another robber fired a short-barreled revolver in the air and the man let go.
The robbers also took the woman’s cellular phone, then fled in a car driven by a fourth man, Brown said.
Police speculate the robbers may have followed the victims home because of the expensive car.
