The property owners of an apartment complex where a 15-year-old girl and her unborn fetus were killed earlier this month were cited for 10 building violations by the city Wednesday. Code enforcement officers examined three apartments in the 2000 block of Wallace Avenue and found several violations in need of repair, including purchasing a seismic strap for a water heater, replacing a rotting wood floor, removing carpeting from the garage, fixing exposed electrical wiring and removing blockage in an air vent. The violations aren’t considered serious, said Sandy Benson, head of city code enforcement. “The things we have listed are pretty easy to fix,” Benson said, adding that property owners have 30 days to comply. The property owners could not be reached for comment. Over Memorial Day weekend, Yuridia Balbuena--who was seven months’ pregnant at the time--was fatally shot while sitting in the garage with her family.
