The city is considering a plan to halve the rate of downtown parking meters, which are currently $1 an hour, and to decrease their hours of operation. Councilmen Shawn Boyd and William Doane suggested lowering the rate to 50 cents an hour and having free parking after 6 p.m. Doane also wanted the council to consider adding meters to Main Street, but other council members rejected the idea. The council plans to hold a public forum on the issue.
