Purdue Days Clue In Figgs
Spark rookie point guard Ukari Figgs was doing a lot of the talking during timeouts of the game at Orlando Tuesday night--and she had plenty to convey.
She was the point guard on the Purdue team that won the NCAA championship this spring for Carolyn Peck, now the Orlando coach.
“I’m sure she had lots to say,” Peck said afterward, laughing. “Yes, we were running some Purdue stuff, and I’m sure Ukari recognized every bit of it.”

For the second consecutive game, Yugoslavs Gordana Grubin and Nina Bjedov had impressive outings coming off the bench.
Grubin played 24 minutes in Figgs’ spot because Coach Orlando Woolridge had seen her shut down the Miracle point guard, Shannon Johnson, in a USA Basketball game in Hungary last fall. Johnson had four points.
