Court to Accept Online Payments of Traffic Fines

Share

Motorists who receive traffic citations may now make online payments for fines, bail and traffic school.

In what officials said is the first such program for a court nationally, the Los Angeles Municipal Court has upgraded its Internet services to enable such public transactions 24 hours a day with the use of a credit card and an e-mail address. However, outstanding warrants can not be handled by the new online system.

Until this upgrade, the online court system could only handle requests for postponements of citation due dates or traffic school deadlines.

About 55,000 traffic tickets are issued per month in Los Angeles County, and the online services are expected to reduce congestion for individuals making payments in person or by phone. The Web site also includes information on attending traffic school online.
