Brooks Names New Undersheriff

Ventura County Sheriff Bob Brooks has appointed Craig Husband, a 23-year veteran with the department, as undersheriff upon the retirement of Richard Bryce this summer.

Husband currently serves as a sheriff’s commander in charge of the Camarillo division and the sheriff’s Aviation Unit. Bryce is set to retire Aug. 1 after a 34-year tenure.

As second-in-command, Husband will oversee many operations within the Sheriff’s Department. He has previously managed the Todd Road Jail and the Branch Jail Honor Farm, the Major Crimes Investigation Bureau and the Narcotics/Gangs/Intelligence Unit.

Husband has also served as commander of the sheriff’s regional training center in Camarillo. He has a black belt in martial arts and teaches defensive techniques to law enforcement officers, Brooks said.

Husband lives in Camarillo with his wife, Cecilia. He has a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration from Cal State Northridge.
