Two men were killed and five other people were wounded in three separate shootings early Saturday morning in the northeast San Fernando Valley, police said.

Authorities did not know if the incidents were related.

In Sun Valley, a man was fatally shot and his companion was wounded when they were approached by two men, one of whom opened fire, police said.

Dan Tapia, 24, and an unidentified companion were walking by an apartment building in the 8500 block of Sunland Boulevard about 1 a.m. when they were shot, said Charlotte Broughton, Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman.

The attackers fled in a white pickup truck, police said.

Both victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital, where Tapia died. His companion is expected to survive, police said.

A second shooting about 1:30 a.m. in Mission Hills near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Macneil Street left one man dead and another wounded, police said. No other details were released.

The wounded man underwent surgery, but police did not give his condition or hospital location because the shooting may be gang-related.

About 15 minutes later, at the same Mission Hills location, three men were wounded in another shooting, police said.
