On “Cross at Auschwitz,” letter, June 9: While not all the actual victims of the Holocaust were Jews, all Jews were the intended victims of the Holocaust. This we cannot say of Catholics or of any other prey of the Third Reich. While there might be 152 wooden crosses, or even 75,000 wooden crosses to memorialize Catholic victims, one Star of David proves that Hitler failed.
The democracy of death--in the end we are all dead--should not blind us to the meaning and significance of particular deaths.
