Day Use Passes Required to Enter Recreation Area

Beginning Saturday, the National Forest Adventure Pass will be required for day use in the Littlerock Recreation Area, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The pass must be displayed on the windshield of parked vehicles, and costs $5 a day or $30 a year.

An additional $5 will be required for overnight stays.

Officials said 80% of the money collected from fees will be used to maintain and improve facilities in the district.

Before the Adventure Pass, only 15% of fees collected were returned to the site to cover the cost of collection, officials said.

The Adventure Pass program was authorized by Congress in 1996 to test user fees as a way to maintain natural resources and recreational opportunities in national forests.

The passes can be purchased at the Littlerock Recreation Area or from local vendors in Palmdale, Pearblossom and Quartz Hill.

The pass is required in the Cleveland, Los Padres and San Bernardino national forests.
