City leaders this week passed an ordinance that protects the city from any claims resulting from a new skateboard facility at Beebe Park. Skateboarders and in-line skaters who use the facility, scheduled to open in mid-July, will be responsible for wearing helmets, knee and elbow pads. The revised ordinance also names the facility at Beebe Park as the only place where skateboarding is permitted on public property in the city. The sport is illegal in all other parks and city-owned property.

Other rules include prohibition of alcohol, tobacco or drug use, profanity or “reckless and boisterous behavior” at the facility. It will be open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk. Signs summarizing the regulations will be posted.
