Arraignments Today in Weekend Slaying

Two men arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Antonio Gonzalez, 45, of Thousand Oaks are to be arraigned today.

Gonzalez was found dead of multiple stab wounds Saturday night near his house in the 800 block of Avenida de los Arboles.

Doroteo Gonzales, 42, and Manuel Calvillo, 29, both of Thousand Oaks, were arrested in connection with the killing, the first homicide in the city since 1997.

At today’s arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court, Gonzales and Calvillo are due to be charged with murder.

Gonzalez was one of 15 people who lived in the three-bedroom house on one of Thousand Oaks’ main streets.

“The Sheriff’s Department has responded there before for loud music and noise,” Sgt. Steve Bourke said about the residence.

Records show the house is owned by Dolores Didio, a Conejo Valley Unified School District school board member, and her husband, Vincent C. Didio. They have owned the rental home since 1970. The couple were unavailable for comment Monday.

Sgt. Bob Lamy of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, who is leading the investigation, said he is still trying to figure out what occurred leading up to the stabbing.

Officials said Saturday’s killing is the 15th homicide in Thousand Oaks since 1988.

“I don’t think this is something people should worry about. Thousand Oaks is one of the safest communities in the United States,” Bourke said. “There is no need to change lifestyle [based] on this one instance.”
