Cursing
Re “Why I Protected My Kids From the ‘Cussing Canoer,’ ” Commentary, June 20: Not everyone enjoys listening to the cursing that has become so commonplace in our society. It is just another form of bad manners. If I am trying to enjoy dinner at a restaurant and hear the F-word it spoils my meal. I am not shy and find that most people will refrain when asked.
I believe it has become such a bad habit that most people don’t even realize how offensive their language is to others. Once on the soccer field, the F-word was used in a sentence as two teenage boys passed by my husband and me. I gently turned to them and stated that I considered myself a lady and did not appreciate having to hear that word. To my surprise the young man said, “Yes, ma’am, you’re right and I apologize.” Now, that’s a young man with hope.
