Police Release Sketch of Would-Be Kidnapper
Police released a description Sunday of the man suspected of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old Newport Beach girl as she picked flowers near her home.
The girl had gotten off her bicycle for the flowers Saturday afternoon when a man driving a dark green, late-model Toyota pickup reached out his door and tried to grab her, said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Mike McDermott.
The girl resisted and fled on her bicycle, McDermott said. Her mother phoned police.
The suspect sped away, but the girl described the man as white, in his 30s with short brown hair, an average build and a tattoo on his left shoulder. He was wearing a white T-shirt and possibly tan pants. The truck had brown doors and the license plate is believed to contain the letters PGE. Anyone with information should call detectives at (800) 550-NBPD.
