Residents have a month to prepare for the annual City Pride Program, which rewards homes and businesses for contributing to the beauty of their neighborhoods. City officials said they also need volunteers to help survey the neighborhoods during the judging phase in April.

City Pride criteria largely are limited to landscaping and the external appearance of homes and businesses, program coordinator Kurth Nelson said. Judges will be looking for flowers, newly painted trim and other spring-cleaning efforts. The goal is to recognize those who give an extra effort to maintaining their property, Nelson said.

Briggeman Disposal can help by picking up two free bulky items per household. But the company cannot collect hazardous waste or construction materials.
