Corina Alarcon Confirmed for Building and Safety Post
Two months after she bowed out of a run for City Council, Corina Alarcon was confirmed Tuesday by the council to serve on the Los Angeles Board of Building and Safety Commissioners.
Alarcon, the estranged wife of state Sen. Richard Alarcon (D-Sylmar), said her appointment by Mayor Richard Riordan will give her a chance to ensure that developers comply with building and safety codes.
“I just want to preserve the quality of life for the citizens of Los Angeles,” she said.
She begins her service on Tuesday when the board is scheduled to tour the new Staples Arena, which is under construction near the Convention Center.
The owner of a San Fernando Valley insurance office, Alarcon has filed for divorce from her husband, the former city councilman from the 7th District.
While she recently bowed out of the race to fill her husband’s council seat, she has not ruled out a run for elected office in the future.
