Edison Opens Season With 7-5 Victory

Edison relief pitcher Dale Thayer escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh, getting the final hitter on a groundout to preserve a 7-5 victory over host Laguna Hills in a first-round game of the Loara baseball tournament Friday.

Winning pitcher Glen Hedgpeth struck out five in five innings and also hit a two-run home run for the Chargers (1-0).

Ryan Johnson had three hits, including a two-run home run, for Laguna Hills (0-1).
