Motorist Dies in Highway Crash
A motorist died Sunday night in a two-car collision on a treacherous stretch of Ortega Highway, the twisting two-lane mountain road that connects San Juan Capistrano and Lake Elsinore in Riverside County.
The road was closed for three hours at 8:10 p.m., after California Highway Patrol officers responded to a 7:30 call.
The unidentified driver of a white Chevrolet pickup headed east was pronounced dead at the scene, one mile east of Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park, and another motorist was airlifted to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
