An elderly pedestrian was fighting for his life Sunday night after being struck by a car while trying to cross four lanes of traffic Friday night on a busy Irvine street, police said.
Chuen Chow, 71, was hit by a Chevy Cavalier about 9:30 p.m. as he tried to cross Walnut Avenue at Hartford in the dark, police said.
Chow was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he remained in critical condition Sunday night. At Chow’s family’s request, a hospital spokesman declined to elaborate on the extent of Chow’s injuries.
According to police, Chow is a frequent walker, sometimes taking strolls around the area two or three times a day. On Friday, Chow’s son called police, concerned about his father’s whereabouts, Sgt. Phil Povey said. Police were able to match a description of Chow with the injured pedestrian, Povey said.
