Motorcyclist, 71, Critically Injured in Crash
A 71-year-old Ventura man suffered bone fractures Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving slammed into the back bumper of a car that had stopped, a city police officer said.
Seaward Cantrell was in critical but stable condition Sunday night at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, a nursing supervisor said.
Shortly before 4 p.m., Cantrell was riding his motorcycle east on Telegraph Road when he struck the back of a compact car that had stopped at Hill Road, according to Ventura Police Officer Mike Van Atta.
It is unknown how fast he was traveling, but Cantrell was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Van Atta said.
The driver of the car, 40-year-old Catherine Johnson of Santa Paula, was not injured. Johnson had stopped to avoid hitting a stalled car on Telegraph Road, Van Atta said.
Van Atta asked that anyone who witnessed the crash call him at 339-4366.
