Quilt Pays Tribute to State’s History

Share

The 150-year history of the state of California is hanging on a wall in Newbury Park’s Stagecoach Inn Museum.

The California Sesquicentennial Quilt will be on display at the museum through Thursday as part of a nationwide tour ending with its permanent display in the state capitol in Sacramento.

It took 230 California quilters more than 1,000 hours to design and craft the 10-foot-wide quilt over 15 months. It features a rainbow-colored array of scenes from the state’s history.

A mouse eating an apple represents Silicon Valley, a rose blossom is for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and grapes with a wine bottle represent Sonoma County. The state’s natural flora and fauna border the quilt.

The quilt is drawing crowds to the museum, which is maintained by the Conejo Valley Historical Society.

The Stagecoach Inn Museum complex is at 51 S. Ventu Park Road. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children 5-12. For more information, call (805) 498-9441.
