SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A brain found in a truck abandoned in Huntington Beach is not human, Orange County coroner’s officials said Thursday.

“It’s from a four-legged animal,” Deputy Coroner Bruce Lyle said. “The brain stem goes into the mid-brain at an angle. Human stems go in straight up.”

A worker cleaning out the truck Wednesday for auction discovered a jar containing the tissue and notified police.

The truck was found Jan. 14 behind a motel on Yorktown Avenue and has been held at a private impound lot, police said. The brain, sealed in a half-gallon glass jar of murky liquid, apparently had been there all along.

“We’re still trying to determine the source of the brain and why it was stored in the bed of the pickup truck,” Huntington Beach Lt. Chuck Thomas said. The truck is registered to a person who listed an address in Whittier. He did not respond to police notification when the truck was impounded.
