HIGHLIGHT REEL: And the winner is . . . ? Sorry, too close to call. Both plays were beauts and involved Earl Watson. With 16:38 left, Bruin guard Baron Davis found himself on his backside with ball in hand before flicking a pass to Watson, who made a three-point shot. A minute later, Detroit Mercy guard Darius Belin’s seemingly uncontested layup was rudely interrupted when Watson came from nowhere to bat away the attempt. Watson is 6 feet. Belin is 6-3.

* WHAT YOU WON’T FIND IN THE BOX SCORE: An electrician. Thursday’s game was delayed about 10 minutes because the 35-second clock above one basket didn’t work. No biggie, it’s only the biggest hoops tournament in the world. A temporary clock eventually was found and placed on the floor.

* WINNING NUMBERS: 9-4-3-1. Those were Baron Davis’ numbers for points, assists, rebounds and personal fouls. Hey, that’s not half bad.

* WRONG NUMBER: Maybe he was sitting too close to foul-master Davis on the bench, but UCLA sub Rico Hines picked up two fouls in 15 seconds after checking in at the scorer’s table with 2:40 left. Hines, in fact, was called for a hack before the ball was inbounded. He then played a seamless 15 seconds before picking up foul No. 2

* LEADING SCORER: Jermaine Jackson, Detroit, 10

* LEADING REBOUNDER: JaRon Rush, UCLA, 6.

SECOND HALF

* HIGHLIGHT REEL: Safe to say they’ll be showing clips of Daniel Whye’s leaping leaner for years to come at Detroit Mercy (the school, not the hospital). Whye’s shot with 10 seconds left gave the Titans a 53-50 lead and all but cinched the upset.

* WHAT YOU WON’T FIND IN THE BOX SCORE: Michael Jordan. Detroit’s MJ didn’t leave the pine Thursday night. The sophomore forward did, however, bury a three-pointer against Texas Southern on Nov. 28. It’s his only basket of the season to date, but there’s always hope with Ohio State up next Saturday.

* WINNING NUMBER: Detroit made only five of 21 shots in the second half, but overcame that by making 14 of 16 free throw attempts. The Bruins went to the line only twice after intermission, making one, not that Coach Steve Lavin is counting.

* WRONG NUMBER: Baron Davis fouled out once every 3.87 games for the Bruins this season. Davis will get a break if he decides to turn pro. You get six fouls per game in the NBA.

* LEADING SCORER: Ray Young, UCLA, 8.

* LEADING REBOUNDER: JaRon Rush, UCLA, 7.
