Hollywood Subway to Open June 12
After years of troubled construction and billions of dollars in expense, the Metro Rail subway to Hollywood will open to the public June 12, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Friday.
The 4.6-mile addition to the Red Line with its five stations will be dedicated June 11.
MTA officials see the opening to Hollywood as an opportunity to showcase the positive aspects of the project.
The opening to Hollywood was planned for December of last year, but was postponed until May and then June. In advance of the start of passenger service, construction crews are racing to put the final touches on the last of the stations.
The new segment begins at the Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue station and heads north underneath Vermont before turning west beneath Hollywood Boulevard. The three Vermont stations are at Beverly, Santa Monica and Sunset boulevards. The two Hollywood Boulevard stations are at Western Avenue and Vine Street.
