The man suspected of raping, beating and robbing an 80-year-old woman in Santa Ana remained at large Saturday but police have arrested two teenage girls who are suspected of being accomplices in the crime.

Police received a tip that the girls, 17 and 15, had been involved in the March 10 incident in which 34-year-old Tony Subia is the prime suspect.

The girls, whose names were not released because they are minors, were found in Westminster with jewelry and property that was stolen from the victim during the assault. It was determined that they were acquaintances of Subia and they were arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property and booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Larry Coleman said.

“The extent of their involvement, if any, in the assault and attempted murder of the 80-year-old woman is under investigation,” Coleman said.

Meanwhile, Coleman said an “comprehensive search” continues for Subia, considered by police to be an extremely dangerous heroin addict. He is Latino, 5-feet-4 and 180 pounds with a muscular build, black hair and brown eyes. He also has numerous tattoos on his arms, chest and back.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Tom Kirchmeyer at (714) 245-8386 or the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8701.
