Sacramento State Beats Titans, 2-0

Kelly Lovato pitched a three-hit shutout and Katie Cichy went three for three as Cal State Sacramento defeated Cal State Fullerton, 2-0, Sunday in Big West Conference softball.

With the bases loaded in the final inning, Lovato got Titan Chrissy Hartman to strike out and Stacy Pierson to ground out to end the game.

The Hornets scored their first run in the third inning when Cichy stole second base and scored on an errant throw by Titan catcher Stepheni Little. Sacramento State got a run in the bottom of the sixth as Cichy’s hit drove in Jenn Handy from third.

The Titans fell to 13-9 overall, 1-2 in the Big West. The Hornets are 7-8 and 2-1.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

CS Fullerton 7, Idaho State 2--The Titans won five straight singles matches during their victory. Titan Amy Medlin defeated Denise Fernandez, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 singles.

The other CS Fullerton winners in singles were Summer Tantee, who beat Laura Swan, 6-3, 6-3; Brooke Lacey, who beat Jennie Vasterling, 6-3, 6-1; Nima Swaminathan, who defeated Kristina Aritjungva, 6-2, 6-0, and Laurel McLatcher, who finished singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Erin Endow.

The Titans also got two wins in doubles as Luzano and Tantee won in No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and McLatcher and Michelle Arndt defeated Aritjungva and Endow, 8-4.

CS Fullerton improves to 6-6. Idaho is 2-5.
