Matador Women Fall in the Ninth

Kelly Bunker’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning Wednesday night gave San Diego State a 3-2 victory over Cal State Northridge in pool play of the Cal State Fullerton softball tournament.

Kellie Nordhagen, from Hart High, scored the winning run.

Sandra Durazo (7-6), from Kennedy High, scattered 11 hits for San Diego State (10-11). She struck out three and walked one.

The Matadors (13-8) helped Durazo by stranding 10 runners.

Antelope Valley 10, Rio Hondo 0--Summer Sanchez hit a home run and a triple for the Marauders in a Foothill Conference game at Rio Hondo.

Sanchez hit a two-run homer in the second inning to put Antelope Valley ahead, 4-0, and tripled in the fourth.

Amber Slanton gave up no hits in four innings for Antelope Valley (11-7-1, 2-1 in conference play.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pepperdine def. Cal State Northridge, 15-7, 15-9, 15-11--Eckhard Walter had 18 kills, but the Matadors were swept in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Matador Gymnasium.

Adam Black had 13 kills for Northridge (2-14, 1-11) and Steve Russell and J.P. Landreau each had 12, but the Matadors had a hitting percentage of only .217.

Pepperdine (16-1, 12-1) had a .471 hitting percentage as George Roumain had 27 kills with a .564 hitting percentage.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

CS Northridge 6, Rutgers 3--Kendra Degura won three sets at No. 2 singles and Lilian Ore added three at No. 4 to help the Matadors sweep the singles matches at the Northridge Tennis Complex.

Rutgers (4-3) swept in doubles, 8-0, 8-2, 8-5.
