Two Killed, Two Hospitalized After Separate Car Crashes
Two people died in separate car accidents in Anaheim and Laguna Hills on Saturday morning.
The first accident occurred just after 7 a.m. at Gilbuck Drive and Ball Road in Anaheim and left one man dead.
The victim, 86-year-old Danny Gonzales of Anaheim, was traveling south on Gilbuck Street in a 1986 Oldsmobile. He was attempting to turn right onto Ball Road when he was hit on the driver’s side by a westbound 1984 Lincoln driven by 39-year-old Saul Rodriguez of Anaheim.
Gonzales was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died at 8:21 a.m. Rodriguez, who was complaining of pain, was taken to Western Medical Center-Anaheim for treatment.
Police said there were no skid marks at the scene and that Gonzales appeared to have turned directly into the path of Rodriguez’s car. They said neither excessive speed nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
Any witnesses are asked to call Anaheim Police Investigator Vince Delgado at (714) 765-1835 or Investigator Rick Alexander at (714) 765-1861.
In the second fatal crash, one woman was killed and a second woman left in critical condition in a single-car accident in Laguna Hills.
The two women were in a 1989 Toyota van and crashed into a cement wall at Toca Loma and Alameda.
Sheriff’s officials identified the driver as Zohreh Zoroufi, 47, of Laguna Hills, who was taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, where she died. Her 67-year-old passenger, whose identity was not immediately released, was in critical condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
Neither of the victims was wearing a safety belt at the time of the 10:47 a.m. accident. The crash remains under investigation.
It was not known if Saturday’s rainfall contributed to either accident, authorities said.
