Garciaparra to Have MRI
Nomar Garciaparra left the Boston Red Sox’s spring training camp Saturday and headed to Los Angeles to undergo an MRI on his right elbow.
The shortstop will be examined by physicians Tony Daley and Lewis Yokum on Monday.
“Nomar has been suffering from a muscle strain and a strained ligament,” team physician Arthur Pappas said. “If all goes well, we expect he will be back Wednesday.”
Pappas describes Garciaparra’s injury as “something you see a lot in spring training.”
Garciaparra, the 1997 rookie of the year and runner-up in last season’s AL MVP voting, suffered the injury in a game March 11.
