A variety of earthquake information--including an up-to-date map of temblors statewide--is available on the Southern California Earthquake Center’s Web site at https://www.scec.org on the Internet.

The Web site includes information about databases, internships and other Web sites related to earthquakes.

The USC-based center comprises scientists and specialists who actively coordinate research on earthquake hazards, provide earthquake information to the public and conduct workshops for engineers and the insurance industry.

“Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country,” a 28-page booklet published by the center, contains a wealth of information on earthquake preparedness.

Many public libraries have copies of the booklet, or copies can be ordered for $1 each (50 cents for nonprofit organizations) by calling the center at (213) 740-1560.
