Southwest Missouri State Coach Steve Alford says he has been interviewed by Iowa and is interested in coaching the Hawkeyes next season.

Iowa Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby said last April that Coach Tom Davis’ contract would not be extended past this season, his 13th at Iowa.

Both Davis and Alford coached their teams to two victories in the NCAA tournament before losing regional semifinal games.

Alford told reporters in Springfield, Mo., Sunday that he is “99%” sure he will coach at Iowa or Southwest Missouri State next year. Alford also said he has not officially been offered the Iowa job.

A former Minnesota player who was kicked off the team says Coach Clem Haskins gave him cash on several occasions while he was playing.

Russ Archambault, who played for Minnesota during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons before being bounced by Haskins, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the alleged payments usually totaled $200 to $300, often in $100 bills. Archambault said he believes he received seven to nine payments.
