Truck Driver Suspected of Felony Hit and Run

A truck driver who smashed his big rig into three cars while driving through a tunnel was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony hit and run, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

Marian Pludowski was headed north on Malibu Canyon Road when he became worried that his truck would hit the top of Malibu Canyon tunnel, according to Sgt. Jon Jones of the Lost Hills-Malibu sheriff’s station.

Instead of turning back, Pludowski aimed his rig over the double-yellow line down the middle of the tunnel, where the height clearance was greatest, Jones said.

Jones said the truck driver sideswiped three oncoming cars but did not stop.

A witness with a cell phone followed the truck north and called the California Highway Patrol. The CHP arrested Pludowski as he pulled his rig from Las Virgenes Road onto the Ventura Freeway.

One person hurt in the initial collision was transported to a local hospital.
