Police asked for the public’s help Wednesday in locating a man for questioning about a fatal hit-and-run Sunday in the Ramparts area.

The 11 a.m. accident at Beverly Boulevard and Kenmore Avenue killed 22-year-old Humberto Soto Enriquez, who was crossing the street after buying bread at a bakery. Witnesses identified the car as a white, 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, rented from an Alamo car rental agency by a man named Luis Savini five days before.

The car was found abandoned blocks from the scene. Savini, who gave an address in Spain on his rental form, could face charges of vehicular manslaughter.

Soto Enriquez, a manager at a Koo-Koo-Roo restaurant, was mourned by his family Wednesday at a news conference where police displayed the car.

“He was a working guy, very loving,” said his brother Elmer, wiping away tears. “Whoever did this . . . I hope his conscience makes him come forward.”
