Music Festival Offers Program in Schools

Share

In an effort to spark student interest in chamber music, the Ventura Chamber Music Festival will present a free educational outreach program, both in the classroom and the concert hall.

Students in grades four through eight are eligible to participate. The class will study classical musicians for a month, listening to their music, and will be invited to attend a free concert.

Sponsored by the Wittenberg Livingston Corp. and the Pacific Bell Foundation, the outreach program is in its fourth year.

In previous years, a chamber music woodwind quintet and the Anacapa String Quartet have visited classrooms. Last year, the Mexico City-based Cuarteto Latinoamericano presented a concert and talk with local students.

The 1999 Ventura Chamber Music Festival, titled “Musical Impressions,” features instrumentalists, vocalists and orchestra performing works by impressionist and romantic composers. The concerts open to the elementary school classes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Teachers interested in signing up for the program and receiving the music festival study guide should call Mary Crawford at 648-3146.
