The San Fernando Valley Bar Assn. on Monday will dedicate alounge and resource center for attorneys at the Van Nuys Superior Courthouse.

The Justice Armand Arabian Attorneys Resource and Communication Center will provide association members with equipment, including a computer with access to online resources, a fax machine and a copier.

“There’s not a lot available for the attorneys at a courthouse,” said Elizabeth Post, executive director of the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn.

“If an attorney has a weeklong trial going on, they can’t be completely out of communication with their office.”

The center, which will officially open on April 14, was funded by a $20,000 donation from retired California Supreme Court Justice Armand Arabian, who is now a private arbitrator/mediator in Van Nuys.

Association members will have access to the lounge via electronic card keys, which the group will distribute.

The association has been working to create a lounge-type area for attorneys since 1993, when the courthouse gave the group space for the project.

But after the Northridge earthquake, the space was needed to house the San Fernando Court until it returned to its original location in 1998 and allowed for the association to resume its plans.
