Goalie Storr Will Give It Another Try

If you fall off a horse, you need to . . . well, you know.

But King goalie Jamie Storr figures he was never really up on the horse Sunday at Denver.

“I faced more shots today than I did yesterday,” he said Monday after practice in Boston. “I’m exhausted.”

He laughed, which is more than he could do after dealing with only five Colorado shots and giving up goals to Theoren Fleury and Adam Deadmarsh. Only 5 minutes 9 seconds into his third start in a month, Storr was pulled in favor of top goalie Stephane Fiset, who finished the 7-2 loss to the Avalanche.

“It felt like I didn’t even start,” Storr said. “Usually when you’re pulled out, you’ve given up five goals or more and played more than half a game.”

He goes back in tonight when the Kings play the Boston Bruins, and he knows why.

“It’s back-to-back games,” he said. The Kings play at Detroit on Wednesday and Fiset will play there.

“I don’t want to fool around with goalies at this time of year,” Coach Larry Robinson said. “I don’t want to get one hurt and lose him for the rest of the season.”

Storr has given up nine goals in his three recent starts.

It’s been awhile since Luc Robitaille could be called “kid,” but the appellation was apt Sunday when he went onto the ice with linemates Russ Courtnall and Ray Ferraro, and with the defensive tandem of Garry Galley and Dave Babych.

Babych is the dean of that group at 37, with 1,188 NHL games, followed by Galley, 35 and 1,088, Courtnall, 33 and 1,020, and Ferraro, 34 and 1,010.

“Kid” Robitaille turned 33 a month ago and played in his 960th NHL game.

Winger Josh Green has been recalled from Springfield but won’t be allowed to get comfortable. He will play tonight, largely because the Kings are in the neighborhood, but will then return the 90 or so miles to try to help Springfield into the AHL playoffs.

“There’s no experience like the playoffs for a player,” Robinson said.

Winger Glen Murray is going to try to play tonight. He suffered a groin strain when he pushed off on his skate after leaving the penalty box in the second period Sunday at Colorado.

Channel 9 (5:30)

* Site--FleetCenter

* Radio--KRLA (1110).

* Records--Kings 27-40-5, Bruins 32-27-13.

* Record vs. Bruins--1-0.

* Update--On Oct. 16, the Kings beat Boston, 2-1, on an overtime goal by Luc Robitaille and had a 2-1 record. Since then, the Kings have gone south and the Bruins have a five-point cushion in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Much of that has been built in their 3-0-3 run in their last six games, though the last two games have been ties in which third-period leads were blown. Bruin defenseman Kyle McLaren has nine assists but no goals in his last six games, and Ray Bourque has four goals and three assists over that time.
