Ex-Alemany Standout Scott Hits Two Slams, Sets Pac-10 Records

Outfielder Bill Scott, a sophomore at UCLA from Alemany High, set three Pacific 10 Conference baseball records Tuesday by hitting four home runs, including two grand slams, and driving in 11 runs in the Bruins’ 16-15 loss to Washington at Seattle.

Scott set single-game records for runs batted in, home runs and total bases (17). His second grand slam came in the ninth inning and pulled the Bruins to within one run.

Scott raised his batting average to .386. He leads UCLA with 13 home runs.

Ventura 10, Santa Barbara 3--Chris Goodenough allowed one earned run and struck out four in pitching a six-hitter for the Pirates in a first-round game of the Santa Barbara City College tournament at Santa Barbara.

Rick Spelman hit his second home run of the season and drove in four runs, David Arroyo had three hits and scored three runs and Kurt Probasco had four hits and one RBI for Ventura (12-11), which will play Oxnard today at 10 a.m.

SOFTBALL

Bakersfield 12, Valley 1--Brook Hamilton had three hits and five RBIs the Renegades (11-17, 4-3) in a Western State Conference game that was called after 5 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule at Bakersfield.

Karla Martinez had two hits, including a run-scoring double, for Valley (3-17, 1-5).

Canyons 22, Glendale 0--Stacy Eastman (6-3) pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking two, and Nicole Giampaolo had three hits, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs for the Cougars (17-11-1, 3-3) in a WSC game at Glendale.

GOLF

UC Irvine Invitational--Sean Redwine of Cal State Northridge shot 12-over-par 228 and finished in a five-way tie for 25th at Coto De Caza Golf Course.

Brian Flugstad of Northridge finished in an eight-way tie for 54th at 234.

Donny Lee of Northridge shot 235 and finished in a five-way tie for 62nd.

Joel Kribel of Stanford won the invitational at 210 and helped the Cardinal win the team title.

Northridge finished 10th among 19 teams with a score of 919, 55 strokes over par.
