$11 an Hour Urged for S.F. Workers
City employees and people who work for contractors doing business with the city would be paid at least $11 an hour under a plan by the head of the Board of Supervisors.
Board President Tom Ammiano said he plans to introduce the legislation Monday.
At $11 an hour for employees who get benefits, the level proposed by Ammiano would be the highest among the 28 localities in the nation that have living-wage laws. It also would be nearly double the $5.75-an-hour state minimum wage.
Several Bay Area cities already have living-wage laws, including Oakland, where the rate is $8 an hour for workers getting benefits and San Jose, where it is $9.50.
