Hotel Owner Told to Fix Violations or Face Jail
The owner of a downtown Los Angeles hotel was given a series of deadlines Wednesday to fix dangerous conditions or face possible jail time, prosecutors said.
Los Angeles Municipal Commissioner Kristi Lousteau sentenced Lyndon W. Hong to 100 hours of community service and ordered him to pay $15,805 in fines and costs.
Lousteau also placed Hong on three years’ probation and ordered him to remedy the code violations at the 100-room St. George Hotel by Oct. 15 or face additional punishment.
Hong, 78, pleaded no contest Tuesday to 10 fire, health and building and safety violations at the six-story brick hotel at 115 E. 3rd St.
The violations were discovered during routine Fire Department inspections. Officials found fire sprinkler heads that had been painted over or covered with tape, pathways to fire escapes blocked by furniture, and fire doors illegally propped open, Kambara said.
The inspectors also cited Hong for missing exit signs, damaged sinks, broken tubs and toilets, rodent and cockroach infestations, units without heaters and broken windows.
