It’s Enough to Make You Wax Nostalgic

With e-mail, the Web, beepers, cell phones and other gadgets, today’s society is operating on a 24-hour electrical clock. Now, one company is challenging you to slow life down, if only for a little while.

Candle retailer Illuminations is celebrating the opening of its newest store in Canoga Park with the “Natural Lightbulb Replacement Program.” The first 100 people to bring a burned-out lightbulb to the store in Topanga Plaza today will receive a free aromatherapy candle along with a list of 10 things you can do by candlelight. In addition, functioning lightbulbs that are brought in will be donated to a local charity.

“All the advancements in society have certainly made it easier to live, but also more hectic and draining. This program is a reminder not to become burned out on life--to maybe spend one evening at home free from cell phones, televisions and the Internet,” says Wally Arnold, founder and chief executive of Illuminations.
