Olerud’s Streak Ends at 47
John Olerud’s streak of reaching base safely in consecutive games ended at 47 Sunday when he struck out as a pinch-hitter for the final out of the New York Mets’ 11-6 loss to Arizona at Phoenix.
At the time, Olerud was the only pinch-hit option left in the dugout for the Mets, who carry 12 pitchers and 13 position players on their roster.
Olerud had reached base either with a hit or a walk in the last 17 games of last year and the first 30 this years.

Hill became the ninth Cub to go on the disabled list this season. He hit .452 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 15 games before aggravating the hamstring.
