15 Pitchess Jail Inmates Hurt in Interracial Brawl
Fifteen inmates suffered minor injuries during a race-related fight Monday at the Peter Pitchess Detention Center’s south facility, authorities said.
About 150 African American and Latino inmates were involved in the brawl, which began about 3:15 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Margarita Velazquez.
The disturbance was quelled within seven minutes by deputies using verbal commands, Velazquez said.
Three inmates were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries including a gash to the head, broken ribs and a concussion. The others were treated at the Pitchess medical facility.
