Reward Offered in Football Player’s Slaying
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the killer or killers of Hosea Whitaker, an 18-year-old high school football player gunned down March 31 while he was walking home.
At about 10:45 that night, the senior at Long Beach Poly High School was walking alone in the 8000 block of Wadsworth Avenue in Los Angeles when he was apparently confronted and shot to death, authorities said.
No suspects are in custody, and police said the motive for the slaying is unknown. Detectives have spoken with Whitaker’s friends and teachers, and they have all reported positive things about the young man, who previously was a star athlete at Fremont High School.
The City Council is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for Whitaker’s slaying. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Russ Poole at the LAPD South Bureau, (213) 237-1310.
