Monument to Fallen Officers Rededicated
Residents and police officials gathered Thursday to rededicate a monument to two Los Angeles police officers from the Devonshire Division who were killed in the line of duty.
Police Activity League Supporters presented a bronze plaque honoring the officers at the Devonshire station.
The PALS plaque, which contains a poetic tribute to the officers, was placed at the foot of a black granite monument. Mary Ann Conron, president of PALS, said the original monument, which is outside the station, was dedicated to the two slain Devonshire officers in 1995.
The two officers honored Thursday were Zlatko “Nick” Sintic, who was shot to death in 1976 by a robbery suspect, and Christy Brondell Hamilton, who was fatally shot by a murder suspect in 1994.
“We wanted to do something to show the families we haven’t forgotten them,” Conron said. “We do care and we remember.”
LAPD Chief Bernard C. Parks dedicated the plaque. Officers gave a 21-gun salute and played “Taps” in honor of their fallen colleagues.
