Mission Viejo Shuts Out No. 8 Dana Hills
Kelly Graham’s bases-loaded, one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday scored Nicki Marian to provide Mission Viejo with a 1-0 victory over eighth-ranked Dana Hills.
Marian (4-5) also pitched a one-hitter with no walks for Mission Viejo (12-14, 4-6).
Dana Hills (22-5-2, 7-2-1), finished second to Mater Dei (24-4, 9-1). The Monarchs received a forfeit Thursday from Trabuco Hills (6-21, 0-10), which decided not to play because of Wednesday’s campus dead of swimmer Brian Graper.
In the Century League:
Canyon 3, Villa Park 2 (10)--Marie Coleman scored on a wild pitch with two out in the 10th for host Canyon (17-12-1, 6-4), which clinched second place.
No. 1 Foothill 8, Orange 0--Kristen Mann hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs for Foothill (27-3, 10-0). Elizabeth Bendig (9-0) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 15.
In the Empire League:
No. 10 El Dorado 3, Loara 0--Melissa Hobson (9-1) pitched a two-hitter, had three hits and scored as El Dorado (21-3, 9-1) won its first title in 23 years.
Loara is 17-12, 6-4.
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 2, La Quinta 0--Nuvia Marti pitched a two-hitter for Garden Grove (18-10-1, 10-2), outdueling Heidi Foster, who gave up three hits.
No. 3 Pacifica 3, Santiago 0--Alicia Morley’s seventh-inning single broke up Jessica Soto’s perfect game bid for first-place Pacifica (19-8, 11-1). Senior catcher Toria Auelua had went two for three with two RBIs for Pacifica (19-8, 11-1).
Rancho Alamitos 7, Los Amigos 0--Kristina Hyllested pitched a one-hitter for third-place Rancho Alamitos (12-12, 7-5).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 11, Santa Ana 0 (5, mercy)--Natalie Golda had three hits and five RBIs, giving her 32, to break the single-season school record for Rosary (20-8, 10-0).
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 6, Sierra Madre Maranatha 0--Laura Miklos (12-1) struck out 14 for host Orange Lutheran (23-5, 11-1).
In the Orange League:
Valencia 10, Magnolia 0 (6, mercy)--Michelle Whiteman (13-8) pitched her first no-hitter for Valencia (18-11, 8-2).
In the Sea View League:
Irvine 4, Newport Harbor 0--Robyn Horrick (6-7) struck out 14 in a no-hitter for fourth-place Irvine (12-13, 3-5).
No. 4 Woodbridge 1, Santa Margarita 0--Natasha Watley tripled and scored on a passed ball for Woodbridge (20-9, 8-0).
In the Sunset League:
No. 5 Fountain Valley 10, Esperanza 0 (5, mercy)--Natalie King struck out 12 for first-place Fountain Valley (21-7, 9-1). Tiffany Miller had three hits, scored three runs and had three RBIs.
No. 7 Marina 3, Los Alamitos 1--Carrie Hagen had two hits, an RBI and scored for Marina (19-9, 8-2).
