New Century Financial Promotes Cope
Kent Cope has been named to the new position of senior vice president and chief administrative officer for New Century Financial Corp. in Irvine. Cope joined New Century in 1997 as vice president in charge of business development, and in 1998 was appointed vice president and director of national operations for the wholesale division. In his new position, Cope will oversee the corporate services, purchasing, policy & procedure and training departments. In addition, Nick Minardi was appointed senior vice president, credit administration. Minardi joined New Century in 1996 as vice president responsible for new product development. In 1998, he was assigned to form and direct the risk management department.

Bret C. Schaffer has been appointed a principal and managing director of transactions for the Irvine investment banking and financial advisory firm of BCC Capital Partners LLC. Schaffer has been with the company for six years.

Edward A. Beeman is the new chief financial officer at SM&A; Corp. in Newport Beach. He succeeds Steven R. Mast, who resigned. Beeman was formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer for Coyote Network Systems, and before that, chief financial officer of Western Water Co.

Peter Gifford has been named vice president of channel sales for Princeton Graphics Systems Inc., a Santa Ana manufacturer of computer and high-definition displays. Gifford was director of channel sales. Prior to joining the company, he was director of channel sales at Microtest. Tom Paterniti has been named vice president of product marketing. Paterniti served as director of product marketing for ViewSonic Corp., and before that was senior manager of display product marketing for the systems and peripherals division of Mitsubishi Electronics America.

Fernando Serrano has been named principal of Global Capital Markets in Irvine. Before joining the company, he co-founded MIB Group Inc. in Newport Beach, a private investment banking firm, and served as president and chief executive. Serrano has also been vice president for American Commercial Capital in Carlsbad.

Kent W. Burrows has been appointed vice president-commercial loans for Eldorado Bank. He will be based in the Newport/Irvine office. He was formerly vice president and manager for Marine National Bank’s business banking center office in Orange.

Amy Williamson has been appointed director of sales for Newport Beach-based Hornblower Cruises & Events’ greater Los Angeles/Orange County operation. Williamson was previously associate director of sales and senior sales manager for Hornblower.

Victoria Miles has been appointed executive vice president of sales and operations for Bonneville Travel in Newport Beach. She most recently served as operations manager for American Express.

Kevin M. Smith has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of Edison Mission Energy in Irvine, an Edison International company. His responsibilities will include corporate and project financing, mergers and acquisitions, treasury, accounting, tax and administration. Smith succeeds James V. Iaco, who was named president, Americas division, early last year. Smith has served as Edison Mission Energy’s vice president and treasurer since 1994.

Martha Alvarado has been selected as director of marketing for National Survey Systems in Irvine. Alvarado, who has been with the company since 1987, was formerly director of research operations and senior project manager.

James Estrada has joined Voit Management Co. as vice president and regional manager for the Orange County, San Diego and Arizona regions. Previously, he was regional vice president for Cabot Industrial Trust, vice president for CB Richard Ellis, senior manager for Koll Management Services Inc., vice president for Occidental Financial Group Inc. and a real estate broker for Grubb & Ellis.
