A 41-year-old North Hollywood man critically injured when his motorcycle rear-ended a car is expected to live, police said Sunday.

The man slammed his motorcycle into a station wagon and was thrown to the asphalt about 9:10 p.m. Saturday , according to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Karen Faciane.

The victim, whom Faciane declined to identify pending notification of next of kin, suffered head trauma and was at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center on Sunday.

Faciane did not know the extent of his head injuries, but he is expected to live. Hospital officials listed the man in critical condition.

Faciane said the motorcyclist, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, may have caused the accident.

The driver of the car, a 42-year-old Castaic woman, told CHP officers she was driving 57 mph when the motorcycle struck her car. After regaining control, she stopped along the shoulder. She was not injured, Faciane said.

Shortly after the crash, a 34-year-old woman from Canyon Country drove her car over the wrecked bike.

“She continued until she saw sparks flying out from under the vehicle,” Faciane said. The woman parked her car on the shoulder and got out. The woman was uninjured, but her car was destroyed after catching fire.

No citations or arrests have been made in connection with the accident, Faciane said.
