County Line Will Be Moved for 42 Homes
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a boundary change Tuesday that will join homeowners in a small residential community with their southern neighbors in Brea.
After existing for decades as part of unincorporated Los Angeles County, the community is expected to become part of Brea, a process that is expected to be approved by a state regulatory agency by February.
The annexation of the 42 homes in the Midbury Street district has been planned for about a year. It was prompted by a Los Angeles County decision to discontinue contract work by Brea Police and Fire departments. But residents protested in fear of longer response times by Los Angeles County public safety departments in emergencies.
Officials of Orange and Los Angeles counties and Brea, as well as many residents, said they are pleased.
“From the government perspective, it only makes sense,” said Karen Haluza, who has been managing the annexation for Brea’s Department of Development Services.
“There will be no large changes, no mailing address changes, no ZIP Code or phone number changes. Hopefully there’ll just be less confusion.”
