Complaint Targets Senior Care Facilities

State officials filed an action Wednesday to revoke licenses issued to a Newport Beach company that operated 33 residential elderly care facilities under the Autumn Rose name.

The company, Managed Assisted Care Services Inc., became insolvent in March and abruptly shut down its Autumn Rose assisted living facilities in Orange and Riverside counties, forcing state and local agencies to find new homes for 154 seniors.

Financial documents the company gave the state in January “were false and misleading” and suggested the company was financially sound, according to the complaint filed with the state Department of Social Services.

The complaint asserts that the company was deeply in debt with liabilities of $1.2 million and suffering monthly losses of more than $150,000 when it ceased operations.

In addition, the complaint charges that Managed Assisted Care violated patients’ rights by failing to give them a 30-day notice of eviction and failed to give tenants refunds for the unused monthly rent, as required by law.

Managed Assisted Care officials were unavailable for comment Wednesday.
