Man Gets Jail Term for Sexual Assault on Woman

A gas station attendant will spend two months in jail for sexually attacking a woman at the Panorama City station where he worked.

Magdi Helmy, 37, was ordered Wednesday to serve 60 days in jail by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Anita Dymnant. Helmy was found guilty last month in the sexual assault and battery of a female food vendor in the mini-market of the Mobil gas station at 13755 Roscoe Blvd.

Helmy, of Panorama City, groped the vendor while she was doing inventory in the mini-market stockroom Dec. 30. The victim escaped unharmed when someone entered the stockroom, scaring Helmy away.

Helmy has been ordered to surrender to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at Van Nuys Superior Court on June 21 to begin his sentence.

Dymnant also placed Helmy on three years’ summary probation, ordered him to register as a sex offender, attend counseling and pay restitution to the victim to cover the costs of therapy she has undergone since the attack. A hearing set on Helmy’s surrender date will determine the amount of restitution he must pay.
